Danny
Mortensen began his aviation career in 1967 at Arizona State
University where he obtained his Private Pilot License.
Upon graduation with a degree in the Russian language in
February 1969, Dan entered the US Army as an Infantry
Lieutenant. He is now President of Bill Phelps'
Airline Ground Schools (AGS), having purchased the company
in 1987 after serving four years as an instructor.
Prior to working for AGS, Dan was with the FAA for eight
years as an Air Traffic Controller, and then spent two and a
half years with AMSOIL Corporation as a corporate pilot on a
Cessna Citation with additional corporate responsibilities.
He has built several aircraft. A Mong
racing biplane now hangs in a museum in Tokyo, Japan having
won the National Championship Air Races in 1990 and 1991.
Another aircraft, the AMSOIL Rutan Racer, now hangs over the
Pylon Bar in the world's largest sports bar in the Reno
Hilton.
Dan held several world aviation records in
the early 1980's and capped his aviation career in 1990 with
the Gold Trophy at the National Championship Air Races in
Reno, Nevada. Dan has served as a radio talk show host
in the Los Angeles market on KFOX-FM and as the Chief
Instructor for a nationally recognized Flight Instructor
Revalidation Course.
In 1990, Danny & Bob Norris formed
Aviation Business Services to secure FAA approval as a
national vendor for FAA computer testing. Upon
submitting a winning bid and obtaining an FAA license in
1993, they sold the CATS FAA computer testing for a nice
profit in 1996.
Danny Holds ATP and CFII tickets and was
the Program Manager of Dispatcher Training at Sierra Academy
in Oakland, CA for several Years.
Danny is currently an FAA Examiner for
Aircraft Dispatchers and in addition to his duties in the
training department at ASTAR Air Cargo, formerly DHL
Airways, he operates Airline Ground Schools' nationally
recognized FAA approved dispatcher training program in
Florence, KY.
